In March 1939, Nazi Germany achieved the break-up of Czechoslovakia and its division into the satellite Slovak Republic and the German-occupied Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. This ended the roughly six-month existence of the "second" republic, which was established in the autumn of the previous year after the withdrawal of the border areas of Germany and subsequently also Hungary and Poland.
